The winner of a recent $1,000,000 Powerball prize says she plans to help others, but won’t be changing her own life much with the win as she’s already blessed.
Melinda Rother from Grand Island, Nebraska scooped the prize after matching five numbers in Saturday’s Powerball scooping $1,000,000. She has been purchasing tickets from Casey’s General Store at Five Points for several years but this is her first significant win, she checked the numbers online on Sunday, realising she was a big winner.
In a statement Rother stated that she feels blessed every day, and this is just the icing on the cake. As such she says she’ll continue to teach Sunday school, and continue with her volunteering at the Salvation Army. She intends to use the cash for good, but doesn’t intend on making changes to her already happy life. The winner says her sister is pursuing a degree in veterinary care and the cash will help for that, but she does intend on treating herself to some new kitchen appliances.
The winner seems pretty grounded and it seems that the $1,000,000 will just add a little flavour to her life. While Melinda Rother won the second prize, the top prize rolled over, which means the Powerball jackpot is currently a massive $165,000,000!
However, even this isn’t a huge jackpot for the multi-state lottery and it could roll a lot further before a big winner is found. The record Powerball jackpot stands at an eye-watering $1.6 billion, showing the lottery’s challenging odds. Thankfully it has many $1,000,000 winners along the way, just like this one who became Nebraska’s seventeenth Powerball millionaire.
